The EL Ford Falcon along with the NL Fairlane and DL LTD, was introduced in October 1996 (Sydney Motor Show). A minor facelift of the 1994 EF. 141,056 ELs, 8727 NLs, and 930 DLs built. EL Falcon replaced in September 1998 by the AU Falcon. NL Fairlane/DL LTD replaced in March 1999.

EL Ford Falcon's took part in the 1997-98 V8 Supercars series. Glenn Seton, in the #30 Ford Credit Racing EL Falcon won the 1997 V8 Supercar Championship.
